Weekly Pagan Lingo – Angel:

To many pagans the title angel is another word for a spiritual being who acts as a messenger between the realm of the divine (your higher power) and the physical plane (the mortal plane).

The image that is commonly used to represent angels is not the only image an angel can take on. I personally believe that angels can go by many titles such as spirits, guardians, spirit guide, fairy, sprite and so on. It really does all depend on how you view your personal messenger between yourself and your deity.

It is believed by most traditions and belief systems that this being has never been an incarnated state.

Weekly pagan lingo – Altar

The altar will be the foundation of your magickal tools. For spell-casting purposes, the altar is the surface on which the spell is worked. It symbolizes the centre of the self and the centre of the universe. It is the focus and support for the magickal energy you raise.

An altar can be a table or area dedicated for ritual work. There are many books out there that show you the basic structure and suggestions as to the placement of certain tools when it comes to the altar. These books are simply helpful guides when it comes to a traditional altar or altars within the structure of certain types of practices. The great thing about the nature of the paganism is it allows you to follow your intuition, whatever feels right to you. So don’t feel you have to have something set somewhere because someone told you that is where it belongs.

You can have a very elaborate or very simple alter, whatever fits your needs. It may change with the seasons or stay the same with limited additions and subtractions. It’s your altar you create it as you desire.

Most witches set up alters before casting their magick circles so that they have all their tools ready and not have to open and close the circle. I practice in a room and cast my circle to take up the space of the room because even though I have my alter set up I am bound to forget something.

Alters can be made from a self, a nightstand, or a table.  It could be a small table, the kitchen counter, a bookshelf, anything really. I know someone that uses a step stool. Perhaps your alter is a rock outside or a stump.

Weekly Pagan Lingo: The Akashic Records

When speaking about the Astral Plane with others the topic of the Akashic Records does tend to be brought up, a lot. These are records that are believed to be kept and accessed only in the Astral plane. Akashic Records hold information about every human life including their past lives. Naturally it is also believed that they are guarded by higher beings so not just anyone is granted to see them.

Myself being one that naturally traveled into the Astral Plane as an adolescent without knowing it for some time, I had no clue what this was when people began to talk to me about it. Imagine how awkward I felt when I looked at people confused during conversations about the Astral plane and they used a lingo I never heard before. I was just learning about this place I found myself in at night and they were talking about searching for their Akashic Records.

In my mind over the years I would always envision a big filing cabinet that held all my records as these conversations went on. There are different theories as to how the Records are kept and what they look like. In my research and journeys I have found that many people do agree that once you reach a level that you can obtain access to your records then you can look into your past lives and even into the future ones.
